Renovating houses designed by famous architects is always exciting
and a bit intimidating. This was our second opportunity to work
with a classic midcentury Ralph Anderson design. Originally a single
story ranch house, the owner asked for a second story and a fitting
update. Taking cues for the existing house and the majestic woodland
site, we mixed adventurous modern materials - yes, that’s bark
siding - with the classic lines and logic of the original Northwest
Modern architecture, expanding and revitalizing this house while
keeping true to its original character.
