Founding Principal Heather Johnston Architect AIBC, AAA, MAA, SAA has practiced architecture, planning and urban design for over 30 years in the US and Canada. Most, though not all, of her work is West Coast based. She has successfully led design efforts on projects from heritage residential and commercial renovations to large scale public, commercial, and industrial facilities.

From beginnings in theatre and urban design to her leadership of PLACE Architects and prefab sister company PLACE Houses; Heather’s passion for design and unequivocal excellence motivates teams to consistently exceptional results. Her approach is conceptual and collaborative, and her interests span scale from interiors to urban design - always with the intent to build community and create place, positively contributing to existing natural and built ecologies.

Heather has dedicated her career to finding culturally and environmentally intelligent ways to address the complex issues of sustainable growth and development, in balance with the preservation of cherished natural and built environments.
